Sterilization (Spay/Neuter) After Care
All kittens are spayed or neutered before heading to their forever homes. There is nothing physically you will have to do to care for the incision site.Our trusted surgeon makes the smaller incisions to reduce the chance of any infection or complications. External glue is typically used but on occasion there may be external sutures. All sutures will be dissolvable and do not need to be taken out. Please check the incision daily. If you notice any redness or swelling please call us and your preferred veterinarian ASAP.
We do not foresee any issues but in medicine nothing is guaranteed and it better to side with caution.
FVRCP Vaccine
Your kitten has been given its age appropriate vaccines.
The vaccine is called Distemper otherwise known as FVRCP. Distemper vaccines are part of a series and MUST be completed in a time sensitive manner. No sooner than three weeks from the previous and no later than 4 weeks. Please set up an appointment with your regular veterinarian ASAP to give your kitten its final distemper for the year. Some veterinarians have a wait list so please be conscience of this. You do NOT want to restart.
Rabies Vaccine
Rabies vaccine is required by state law. It does not matter that your cat will forever stay indoors it is a requirement no matter how little risk of exposure. For Ragdolls we would ask you wait until 6 months of age to vaccinate your cat for rabies. We do not recommend vaccinating RagDolls with more than one vaccine at a time.Yes your veterinarian may tell you there is slim to no risk of side effects to multiple vaccines given at once but RagDolls are very sensitive cats and again we stay on the side of caution.
Leukemia Vaccine
Your kitten does not need a leukemia vaccine. It is the disease of the outdoor cats. Your Ragdoll will be strictly indoors. You may ask your veterinarian to test for those diseases if you choose.
All parent cats in our cattery have been tested and are negative for both feline leukemia and feline aids. We are more than happy to send proof of those results to your veterinarian upon request. We are a closed cattery which means our cats do not come into contact with any other cats that may be carrying any diseases.
Fecal Testing
Our kittens will leave our cattery with a negative fecal. The fecal will either say "Kitten" or be under the mother's name depending on how the Lab requires it. We do not know who's bum it came from in the litter so "Kitten" is the easiest way to label the sample. The lab slip will be provided with the medical history.
Will My Kitten Have a Reaction?
In medicine there is no guarantee, so the simple answer to that question is possibly. Although uncommon there is always a possibility kittens can have a reaction mild to severe or even develop Limping Calici.
Normal Mild Reactions may include:

Low Fever

Extra sleepiness

Low appetite

Injection site pain and or a small lump
Serious Reactions may include:

Allergic swelling of face
-
Hives
-
Stomach upset (vommiting/diarrhea)

Trouble breathing
-
Weakness of body
SEEK MEDICAL HELP ASAP IF YOUR KITTEN IS EXPERIENCING ANY SEVERE REACTION SYMPTOMS!
Symptoms of Limping Calico may include:

High Fever
-
Shaking
-
Limping on one or more paws
-
Joint pain or Stiffness
-
The cure for that is subcutaneous fluids and antibiotics administered by a veterinarian.
Sometimes veterinarians may not realize these symptoms are caused by a reaction to the vaccine administered to your kitten. They may see limping and assume trauma, fracture etc, so if your kitten demonstrates any of these symptoms PLEASE CALL US IMMEDIATELY. We will send over any information we have that will welp.
Even though a vaccine reaction is RARE it must be addressed immediately.
Note: side effects usually develop with in 48 hours except limping calici may take up to 8 days after the vaccine is administered to develop.
If a kitten does develop limping calici they must be treated with antibiotics prescribed by a veterinarian.
Although there is a small chance of a vaccine reaction kittens must be vaccinated and will leave our cattery with current age appropriate vaccines.
Feeding and Litter Box Information
Before the pick up of your new kitten we will discuss the typer of food and litter used while your baby was here at our cattery. Kitten food is recommended until 6 months of age. We recommend access to wet and dry food as much as wanted until your baby is 6 months and then following the directions on the table on the back of the bag of your preferred food. Every food has a different caloric intake, different ingredients, etc be aware cats are true carnivores and “meat” (protein) should be the first ingredient. Please purchase the same food both wet and dry that we use here and slowly intergrade your food of choice as to not cause an upset tummy and diarrhea.
Start with only the same food then try a 3:1 ratio (three parts our brand one part new brand), 2:2, 1:3, and then completely the new food should do the trick.
Carrier Information
Please bring a carrier for pick up. Cats should not be loose in the car while driving for the safety of both the pet and the owner. Your kitten is not acclimated to your family yet and can it can be scary leaving its biological family, so please leave your new baby in the carrier while driving home. As your kitten grows into an adult cat the size of the carrier should accommodate the size of the cat. Big cats in small carriers is a big no no. RagDolls happen to be a larger breed cat so be mindful of their growth. Your cat will be strictly indoor but carriers are needed while transporting to the vet. Leashes are another no no. Safety is the top priority always. The outside world can cause some anxiety so please put yourself in their paws.
Acclimation Information
Kittens should not have free room of your house until fully acclimated. To help this process try keeping your kitten in a bedroom with no other animals. If you have other animals introductions should be done on neutral grounds and supervised. Before the pets meet, try giving different objects scented with the new kittens scent to the other pets. Please go slow take your time with this process. You may contact us anytime with questions.
Pet Insurance Information
Do you need health insurance for your kitten? Well this depends on you. Here at our cattery we strive for healthy kittens but this is no perfect world and sometimes life happens. You would have to consider your life style as well as pros and cons of health insurance and decide as a family if that’s something you would like. At PurrrfectDollz we recommend pet insurance and at the very least activate the one month free Trupanion that comes with your kitten while you decide.
